PG vs VG in a Sealed Disposable: What the Ratio Actually Changes

Ask which PG/VG ratio you should buy and a hundred articles will answer. Almost all of them are, without saying so, about refillable e-liquid — a world where you pick a bottle with the split printed on the label. A sealed disposable is not that world. You do not choose the ratio, you cannot read it, and nobody who makes these devices publishes it. Here is what the ratio genuinely changes, why the number is unavailable, and which levers really are printed on a listing.

What PG and VG actually do

Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine are the two carrier liquids essentially every nicotine e-liquid is built on; the flavourings and the nicotine ride in them. The two behave very differently — it is only the ability to pick between them that disappears in a sealed device.

PG is the thin one. It flows easily and carries flavour compounds well — food-grade concentrates are generally suspended in PG to begin with, and PG has almost no taste of its own, so you notice the flavour rather than the base. It soaks into a wick quickly, and it is the component behind the sharper, more defined sensation at the back of the throat. What it does not do is make much vapour.

VG is the thick one, closer to syrup. It produces the dense cloud a disposable is built to deliver, and it draws noticeably smoother. It is also faintly sweet in its own right, which cuts both ways: that sweetness rounds a flavour off pleasantly, but can blur fine detail in a complex blend. Being viscous it travels through wicking material more slowly, and retailer technical guides note VG-heavy liquid leaves residue on a coil faster.

Why nobody publishes the ratio — including us

We checked the manufacturer pages again this week rather than assume. IGET's product pages for the Bar, Bar Pro, ONE and Moon publish a tidy spec block: puff rating, coil type and resistance, battery, dimensions, materials, weight. What is on none of them is e-liquid volume, nicotine strength, or any hint of a PG/VG split — consistent across the whole official range, not an oversight on one page.

So if a retailer confidently quotes a ratio for a sealed disposable, ask where they got it, because the manufacturer did not tell them. We do not print one on any listing we sell, for the simple reason that we would be inventing it — and batch formulations change quietly over a product's life, so even a once-accurate figure has a short shelf life. Same pattern as in how to read a vape listing: some fields are published facts, some retailer convention, and telling them apart is most of the skill.

The industry does not even agree on the direction

The general guidance published about disposables contradicts itself. One established retailer guide argues the format must sit balanced in the middle: liquid too thick for the small wicks in a compact, low-power device cannot keep up with your draw, while liquid too thin tends to seep past it. Another argues the category leans VG-heavy, because dense vapour and a smooth draw is what these devices are sold on. Both are sound; neither is a spec sheet.

The levers that are actually knowable

Nicotine strength

Coil resistance

Flavour family and cooling

The words on the label are the most reliable signal you have.
